FYI, a strobist hacker has figured out how to make one before Radiopopper has released theirs...LOL

That's cool. Bad for RP but cool for everyone else.

It's really not that hard to make one actually, if you're familiar with electronics even just a little bit. Even average R/C hobbyists who assemble their own can make one if they knew enough about a camera's hotshoe. I've tried using a garage remote (similar to any RF triggers) and it worked but the appearance gave away that it was a "hack" job.

That's awesome, but it looks a little complicated. I might have to brush up on my electronics knowledge to pull this one off.

I found that I had two garage door remotes in my kitchen cabinet. One was from 1994 (or '96?) when we lived in an apartment and rented a garage space. It had 16 channels (4 micro switches) just like the RF-602 transmitter, while the other remote has 8 micro switches. The old one (with 4 micro switches) worked and had a similar range to the RF-602.

To make a long story short, I spliced a pc sync cord and soldered them on to the board where the button was. I figured since that was the trigger, it should also be what my hotshoe "taps" onto. I also saw that remote had the same battery as my RF transmitter, which was what gave me the idea in the first place, so I assumed it was safe. (I took a big risk by trying all this without any prior knowledge to hotshoe voltages --6v?.) I then took the male end of the pc sync and put that on a hotshoe adapter. The hotshoe adapter then went on the camera's hotshoe. Just like that, I triggered RF-602 receivers. :D It was ugly hanging, clipped to my neck strap, though.

seansky: I think muskydave meant the Canon rpcube ;-)a
I agree it doesn't look that hard. Could probably keep the costs down by soldering directly to the board instead of adding sockets to it for the cables.
