Have you ever gone to a public event, found yourself a good vantage point for the event, only to find yourself taking pictures of other people's P&S LCD Screens. How many people are actually going to watch the videos they are taking on their P&S or camera phone while being held at a arms length away? Why is it that people with P&S cameras insist on taking pictures with their arms fully extended?

I am also curious to know at what point will I stop trying to take a picture with a P&S by holding it up to my eye, and then realizing that there isn't a viewfinder. Every time someone asks me to take a picture of them with their camera, I hold it up to my eye.

That concludes my rant for the day.

eyes closest focus distance is arms length, hence closest in-focus view of p&s screen is at arm's length.

I go back & forth from slr to p&s for several years and I still try to look through non-existing p&s viewfinder most of the time, so I guess practice doesn't help, only reinforces the "bad" habit. lol! :D ymmv!

the eye can focus at around 30cm, give or take a bit. You must have short arms...

i've never found switching a problem, probably because the viewfinder of my P&S is so dusty you can't even see through it  . I guess people hold them up to get a clear view, clear of other cameras. Ironically...

I hear what your saying. Last year in Vegas I was set up with tripod at the Bellagio taking shots of the fountains and every 2nd shot is a picture of the P&S belong to the woman next to me waving it at arms length.

More and more at events I see people doing that and to those of us using a tripod - or having to actually use a viewfinder I'm beginning to find it quite frustrating.

As we get older, some can only close focus (with the eye) at about arms length with Bi Focals, without facing skyward while trying to look thru the bottom part of the spectacles. It can be a real pain sometimes & annoy everyone else too.

It's called the zombie stance, where they stand erect with outstretched arms trying to focus that digicam in the dark. All the while moaning "Graaaaiiiinnnsssss".
