I wasn't exactly sure where to post this but I was wondering if anyone can explain the arcs that appear in this photo and other photos I've taken with my 500mm f/4 (w/1.4 TC) on my 30D. I see them most prominently in photos with open sky and water but I think they may be in all the photos but just more visible in the aforementioned? I have not seen them in photos taken with other lenses. They are always oriented in the same direction with the same 3 vertically oriented arcs right in the middle of the photo.

They are also most noticeable in underexposed shots such as this one.

Thanks Brandon. That does look like the same problem and I'm not surprised. I think I got my 100,000 clicks long ago:) Looks like I'll send it in for the once over using the money I've been saving for the 50D :(

They might offer a refurb'd 50D if they are still doing that.

When i sent my 450D in (couple months ago) due to memory problem, they offered a refurbished one for $500-600 so they might be still doing it.

Hmmm...hadn't heard of that. I was planning on keeping the 30D as a back up once I got the 50D. We'll see.

Oh man, just got a reply e-mail and they didn't make me an offer. I guess I'll have to mention it when I call to approve the estimate (which was $212.00 BTW).

OK, Loyalty Program still in effect, although the price for a refurb has gone up from $629.00 to $669.00. I talked with a rep and he assured me that all refurbed units come from dealers only, not from units sent to Canon from individuals. He also stated that all refurbs go through the same tests as new units and the only major difference is the considerably shorter warranty time (90 days vs. 1 year). So, I went for it and should get the 50D on Monday:)
