What kind of hiking? Day hikes? If so, long or short? Overnights? If so, how many? Will you need to carry anything other than photo gear for either type of hiking? More info would make the recommendations easier...

I'm interested to. I do mostly day hikes, ranging from 4 - 12 hours. Usually have to carry some food and water, as well as a couple of clothing options (rain coat, shorts, long pants) depending on the weather.

Right now I've been using an Osprey bag that I absolutely love, but it's not ideal for photo gear.

I would appreciate your thoughts.
Thanks!
R.

Take a look at the Lowepro Computrekker AW. It's plenty big for any photo gear you need to carry, as well as a laptop compartment that can act as a place to put maps or documents. The front pocket is very large and can hold a few shirts, socks, a lightweight jacket, or some food/water. It also has a tripod attachment and an All-Weather cover that comes out when needed (rain, dust, sand, etc).

I've only had it for a few weeks but I've been on numerous day trips to NYC and Philadelphia as well as some short hikes and it's been wonderful. Not too heavy and very comfortable.

This post came on a perfect time! I am looking for a hike-able backpack myself too, and was considering the Computrekker AW. After searching for reviews on the net, none had anything about hiking..! So I am glad you posted this, cause it pretty much made my choice final now!

Thanks :D

Yeah, I am planning to use it for 1-2 days day hiking with possible rain protection. I might want to carry some water and some can/bar food and a fleece/sleeping bag.
Thanks!

No problem!

Others may say different, but I think the Computrekker is a perfect bag for city trips, traveling, and hiking.

City trips/walking - Comfortable, good straps (chest, waist), not too bulky/noticeable, fairly light, plenty of space for camera gear.

Traveling - Small enough for a carry on. Laptop compartment. Plenty of space for camera gear. Front pocket for toiletries, etc.

Hiking - All weather cover. Good straps/harness, comfy, tripod attachment, front pocket large enough for snacks, light jacket, shirts, etc.

Think Tank Rotation 360 (external link). Allows access without removing bag. Expensive but that feature convinced me. Will sell the Tamrac 5X that I have.

Anyone have any experience with the Tamrac Aero Speek Pack 85 Dual Access. It's not quite as advanced as the TT Revolution, but does allow you to sling it and pull your body and one lens out of the side pocket.

My only qualm with this bag is lashing my tripod to the bottom. I would prefer that the tripod be held vertical on the back instead of horizontal underneath.

Anyone else have any opinions good/bad about Tamrac. My small bag is Tamrac and has been sufficient.

Thanks all...

J

I purchased an F-Stop Satori a while back and while I haven't used it a LOT yet.. I can easily say it's the most comfortable camera backpack I've used, with plenty of room for most people. I'm going to do a review of it once I've put it through the paces a little more.

I had a tamrac adventure 8, I liked it. Well made and comfortable, the only reason I sold it was I wanted to access my camera more quickly and went with a Lowepro primus which is good, but may be a bit small for your needs. Worth looking at, over in the UK you can get it for around £60 as I assume it is going to be replaced so. I imagine it would be cheaper your side of the pond

I'm also considering the Primus and possibly the CompuPrimus.

Really, only £60 in UK?
It's like 173 to 199 depends on the color here in U.S.
That's like £1 = 3 buck!
But in the market £1 = 1.4 buck.....oh man... what has dollar gone down too in real life?
Or they just want to charge more!
