I like it but it seems a bit underexposed (which is why white reads as grey). Ramp up the exposure 1 or 2 stops and it should look perfect!

I find it interesting...but I feel that it is missing something. What I do not know.

i updated the second picture above - is this something like what you had in mind? the exposure was already cranked, so i adjusted some of the gray to white using curves.

QUOTED IMAGE

I love this image as it is. Maybe the aura could be a bit darker around the tree to give it a bit more spookier mood... but this is just great as it stands now.

thanks for your thoughts. i'm not sure where all the clicks are coming from, but in just a matter of hours this image has already gotten twice the amount of views as an average picture of mine on flickr.

that is understandable. i felt the original out of camera was blah--it was overcast and snowing out--so i decided to go high contrast. i still found it a little blah, and then went perhaps overboard. i guess the fact that the image can't stand alone without being over-processed speaks volumes.

thanks! you might not really be able to tell what is going on from this photo, but there was a huge storm surge, and water levels rose really high, so ice floated over the land then setteled and broke when the tides receded. it was really surreal. in the backyard of one of the cottages a giant hunk of ice that probably weighed two hundred pounds, had come to rest on top of a bench. and this would have been over one hundred feet from shore.
