I still don't think it is going to be that much in the USA, not 2799$, no way. While I thought we would hit 1999$, I think 2199$ is probably more realistic.

Fingers crossed it will be thwn us Brits can get Kerso to get us one. I bet that they will be in short supply for quite a few months as well (unless Canon have been building them by the thousands).

From reading the other posts, it looks like the 70-200 2.8 IS II doesn't have a street price yet. What's so difficult in putting up a suggested MSRP?

Oh, I hear ya. Unfortunately, you'll have to wait about a year to buy it used off someone.

Once again I state: Stop the guessing. This lens will be the same price as Nikon's new version: $2,499. I guarantee it.

Difference is though: Canon's didn't need replacing. The IS worked as advertised and it was and is a fine piece of glass. The Nikon that was replaced (and I owned both more than once), had lousy IS, (called VR), and was softer than soft can be at the edges on full frame.

Canon is essentially creating a new revenue stream, capitalizing on up-graders who want the latest, greatest, similar to what occurs with camera bodies. The second part is that they have to appear like something new is going on, as compared to Nikon, and that they are not asleep at the switch.

Canon is upgrading the lenses to be more compatible with the better sensors coming down the line. This in turn keeps the revenue stream flowing. Everybody wins.

I agree with everything here. The one stip i have is that the F4 IS system is ahead of the 2.8 so it makes "sense" to standardize the IS units in the lineups.

Maybe we will even see a supertele redesign in a few years. Nikon just spat out another version of their 300 VR 2.8

I love how the Canon website says it will not come with a lens hood. We are shelling out 2k+ in money and they wont throw in a .35 piece of plastic?

Don't worry, Gary Fong will come out with one.

Will the lens hood from 24-105 f4L fit?
