Recently when I use my MKI I try to visualize what they would improve on it. It's probably Canon's best zoom. They really should have put their time and effort in developing the 24-105 2.8IS. ;)

A 24-70 with IS would be great already :)

Funny that I had ordered a 70-200 f4.0 IS from Dell last November, for the best price I could get and free shipping. They put me on backorder for two months, then cancelled the order. I was livid! Now I guess it's just as well . . .

However I'd presume the f2.8 won't be as sharp as the f4.0 IS, correct? No free lunch with the bigger lens elements :(.

Will the lens hood from 24-105 f4L fit?

It would, but why would you want to ? It's designed for a 24mm focal length.

I have been doing a lot of thinking and I am going to sell my 70-200mm f4L IS & the 70-200mm f2.8L IS and put in an order for this mk2!

It does make sense to me!

I tried my friend's 70-200 4.0 non-IS this weekend and I *LOVED* the range, but I am not steady enough for a non-IS version... and I love the 2.8 from my 24-70, so I guess I am going for one of this 70-200 2.8 IS mkII, but not until the end of the year, still have to recover from the damage the 24-70 made to my wallet!

If money's an issue, the 70-200/2.8 IS Mark I is still a great lens. Less than a month ago gear hounds were still lusting after the original.

I saw it for sale new around 1700 USD... I assume the mkII is going to be around 2399... so it is a stretch, indeed. Let's wait and see how they compare and find out if the extra benjamins are worth it.

Alex - that is very interesting.

Many pages back I speculated that this lens would have an RRP of $2999 (USA that is).

Many have said $2499.

It's going to be very interesting to see what it actually sells for on release in the USA.

Still showing as £2799 in the Uk - yeah right.
