its always like that for uk prices, take the us price and put pound on the end or vice versa sucks but true.

It's like that everywhere in Europe with the pound and euro. It sucks for us American's to vacation there because a beer is going to cost the same except with either a pound or euro on the end. It's the same with cars in the U.S. Foreign manufacturers rely on volume from the U.S. market and that is why they can sell it cheaper.

I would just go on vacation to the US and purchase a ton of lenses from BHPhoto with the exchange rate's buying power.

Don't European prices typically include VAT? US prices don't, so unless you're in one of the few sales-tax-free states, add close to 10% to the price of everything.

The UK price on the 70-200 IS is nuts, though. You guys normally get higher prices than the US, but this one's pretty ridiculous. Mk I MSRP: $1999.00 vs £1540.00. Mk II MSRP: $2499.00 vs £2799.99.

I wonder if the UK price will be adjusted downward before launch. The Canon UK site is claiming a March release date, which seems unlikely if the US isn't getting them until April, so maybe Canon UK still has some updates to do on their info.

Yes UK prices do include 17.5% VAT.

The UK price has already shifted down from £2799, so I wouldn't expect it to shift down too much to start with.

Within 6 months the price will be under £2k though.

Just to have it is not enough for me to sell my 70-200 to get the new one. mine is very sharp and trusty. I'll keep mine until canon prove me different.

Thanks for catching that . I forgot that Canon added the BIG "II" to this lens . My guess it won't be much if any better than the f/2.8 IS USM .

So at the latest state of play we have the following

USA rrp = $2499 = £1585

UK pre-order at WEX = $3924 = £2490

I know we talk about "Rip-off Britain" but this is plain ridiculous.

I think it's time for me to write to Canon UK.

I'm not sure but i bet you can get a budget ticket to America for that...

Well done Irishman. I was $500 out - on the wrong side.

I based my estimate on the basis that Canon UK originally published an RRP of £2799.

That price then disappeared but has now reappeared.

Just like the MK IV which is so overpriced here so is this lens - currently on pre-order at £2489 at WEX.

That is why you wont have a problem getting a MK IV over here - plenty in stock.

The same will happen with this lens. I suspect Kerso wont have any trouble getting orders for these.
