but if you cast your mind back to the excellent images that Rob posted for the Paris-Dakar Rallye - those were split second opportunities, whilst there's a lot to be said for planning & prep an hour is still a long time - I suspect he had ear-marked his shots in a notebook months in advance (I did for my trip to Africa) - again this is all "hyped" up in the pre-ramble... again IMO :D

- if you told a wedding photographer he had an hour to shoot whatever he liked he'd be thrilled to bits! ;)

yeah having looked over the rest of that site a lot of the images are pretty meh..so you're probably right!

I just think it looks odd.. Haha!

I can see the point of HDR, Victor's use of it is perfect, how ever looking through that site it seems like alot of the shots were pants before they were hammered through the HDR process ..

I would have to agree - it's like the example Chris made about converting a shot to mono to save it - when it's done right it should be envisaged in HDR or mono not 'salvaged' by this means...

using Victors work as an example (not least of all because I like it) you don't let the HDR get in the way of a good photo, it only serves to compliment it! IMO :D

Exactly, used the correct way and correct circumstances can make a very well composed shot even better! :D

To be honest I stopped reading that website a while ago after reading this article. (external link)
For someone who is supposed to be at the top of the game as far as photography and printing goes, click on the panorama to get the large version. What is the first thing you see?

right hand side part of image isnt exposed correctly?

True but some "saves" do work really well and add drama and urgency :)

Anyone know what the weather is like around Folkestone?

Light snow all day but only settled where there was snow already. The terminal should be ice free as I spent today shoveling the bloody stuff after 8 hours the novelty wares off :(

I find it interesting that in alot of exhibitions the images have a mini story behind them.

What came first, the image, or the story. Sometimes I am not sure and I don't think it really matters.

I am a fan of letting the image do the talking.

I wholeheartedly agree... I find the same with a lot of art too, the artist relies in the text to tell the story rather than the image...

Eeep. How come shovelling? Did the gritter die. I've got a great video on my phone of coming off the train French side on the 18th Dec to see they'd barely done anything with the snow, there were only tyre tracks on the off ramps and they were sending vehicles up one at a time. They now have 3 tractors with snow ploughs that have arrived a touch late that just sit around, no doubt they'll be needed again if winter continues in this vein. Do you just work UK side or both?

Not everyone has a photographic eye.. I was looking at some wedding pics taken by a "pro" and they were awful, alot were soft so converted to B&W to save them!

I was going to mention something but I just kept stoom, they paid £1000 for them too!
