I know batteries lose their full capacity ovr time, that is terriblle.

Even Dell only warranty their batteries for 6 months. I wonder why ;)

Just popping in before more morining trawl of this thread..
If your running Windows 7 on a laptop, then definately read this:
http://social.technet.microsoft.com …96ca2f865d6?prof=required (external link)

Basically theres a problem with my laptop since puting win7 on , the battery is only lasting 20 minutes!

It seems I'm not the ony one, and it's doing permanent damage to my battery!

Hmmm interesting, is it limited to laptops? or netbooks as well?

As explained above, the issue is more likely to be with defective batteries not Win7.

It's only affect win7 machines. It never happened all the time I had Vista on. I upgraded becasue I didn't like Vista. and within weeks the batterys are not holding charge.

Kay if you tell me the difference I'll answer you.

if you read the thread, it seems to be windows 7 ACPI issues and a suggestion maybe it's writing incorrect data to the battery eprom.

I'm running my battery to 0 and trying to recallibrate it. Shame they don't have a callibrate tool like my 1D batteries

That's the point - there is no problem. Win7 has a small issue identifying battery types - that's all. I does not damage batteries.

Rich - if it's lithion, running them down to zero does no good - in fact it can be harmful. They are not like the old nicad's - quite the opposite in fact and they don't suffer from "memory effect".

Hmm bugger.

so a new battery evey 3 months or go back to Vista...
Not a great choice..
I wonder if theres a way of reprogramming the battery
my laptop battery info according to windows:
Capacity 84150
Last full charge: 48015

This is pushing me one step closer to a Macbook
at the football match the other night, I had to turn the lappy back on or swap the battery for the spare all within 40 minutes, while Mac bloke next to me fustratingly left his on and open with screen on fo the duration of the game...

Yeah, Ali's Dell is saying that the battery is almost dead. She's had it for about 4 years now. The Dell website are pretty expensive, so I'll look on eBay.

Glad I read this. Was just about to put W7 onto a friends 2 year old Dell. Think I'll stick to Xp Pro, it'll make driver installs easier too.

They're great that's for sure, but have you checked out the shots here on POTN? I'm quite a regular in the Birds Section and stunning images pass through there very often.

Speaking of birds, has anyone been counting today?

Make sure to read the MSDN thread, I'm just explaining my symptons, because a handfull of people are experiencing this issue doesn't mean it's everyone, hover if your out on a photoshoot and seeing your battery life dropping rapidly over a few months/weeks after install W7, then it could be the same issue.
