Might look into something else .. I found the part on eBay for £12, but there is no way I would try fix it my self!

Its not that bad. At the London Motor Show 2008, I spilt a bit of Red Bull down the flash head of my 580EXII and still works. Wide angle diffuser and bounce card just get a bit stuck at times. Took the whole thing apart and cleaned. Shouldnt be a biggie.

heh heh heh... I had to send my 430EXII off to Fixation under warranty as it just stopped working one day - the day it came back I opened (badly) the package and promptly dropped it on the wooden floor! now it has a lovely piece of gaffa tape on it :D

TBH I'd not want to have paid that much for something to have to repair it, if you'd only paid £30 then I'd do a DIY work around and do without the wide angle diffuser TBH.

The flash works fine and fires with my triggers, It is just stuck on 14mm .. I would rather pay another £30 and get one that I know will function fully!

not a hobby I am keen to expand on - dropping stuff gets pricey!

and it does still work - and I have even managed to get it working as a slave from the 7D - a great achievement for yours truly as I am a total numb nut when it comes to lights and flashes (it's why the studio lights are packed away!) - but I did promise 2010 would be the year of light!

so still 10 months to work on that! :D
