Hayden just told me this on facebook. Id been thinking about what mode to shoot in on the way there, and thought "nah i wont use manual"
Really wish the little voice on my shoulder had convinced me to shoot in manual lol
I know, i got a bit wound up earlier (went out shopping to make me feel better)
I think what i really need to do is to have another photographer along side me next time i do it so ive got a voice of sense lol
Also i think i need to better my PP skills. i have no idea how to adjust shadows etc. Really think i need someone to show me (any offers lol)
You may find it easier to work on one aspect at a time.
Find some shade and use natural light (1 light source) and work on composition.
Then bring in a flash use it a fill or to add highlight/ background separation with the ambient light.
then add another flash, use ambient as fill, one as main other to separate and build from there.
Composition and exposure 1st I would say.
"fixing" in post is not impossible but it may be more beneficial if you looked at post as the equivalent to developing film and put your time into getting the image right in camera.
Also shooting at 1.8 you may not get enough of the subject in focus, which may of may not be what you want and the slightest shake can cause you to lose focus, although when dealing with flash it is the duration of the flash that freezes the image.
That is quite alot of words for me picture...
