Any problems here? I plan on going shooting in the rain one of these days, but I want to protect my camera. What should I do? How should I prepare? What should I bring? What are the odds of my camera getting hurt?

I searched the forum, but I couldn't really find a fully detailed thread covering everything I want to know, so I made my own, if you guys don't mind!

I have used this -- http://www.bhphotovideo.com …18_Rainsleeve_Set_of.html (external link)

(bought it after I read someone recommend it on POTN)

If you're using a small lense, it may look/feel awkward

You could possibly get a peice of plastic bag or something, cover your camera then cut a hole somewhat smaller then ur lens. Then try to just force the lens through the hole till the plastic stretches a bit.

Haha, yeah, probably. Looks more like a DSLR condom though. :P Kidding! But yeah, I'll probably be bringing my 70-300.

Maybe the 50mm, but it's too small.

They make more expensive alternatives of other sizes that are more "permanent" or you could make a DIY home version. not sure if they make one small enough for a 50mm, maybe someone else here would know.

Be aware that, if the front end of your lens rotates while focusing, any covering attached to the front of the lens will want to turn with it. Allow extra covering for this.

if your lens is weathersealed fully then no water will get in to the camera, however the buttons aren't weather sealed. I made a quick thread about snow a while ago and it seemed like unless it was really bad just bring a towel to dry off whatever u can when u can but rain may be a different issue, If you buy any kit for the rain please post it as I would like to get something aswell! thanks good luck!

I would cover your camera some how. If you don't, I expect in a couple of weeks...

glue a ziploc bag to a UV filter the same size as the lens you want to use, make sure its airtight around the filter. Attach camera to the filter, in the bag. Seal the zip, go outside.
