Looking to try my hand at Macro photography and before I spend a lot of money on more equipment, I thought that maybe I would purchase this first.....http://cgi.ebay.com …ories?hash=item19b2473426 (external link)

Does anyone have any experience using the "off" brand extension tubes as opposed to the Kenko ones?

Feedback is greatly appreciated.

Mr. Bill,
In my opinion, not worth it because you don't have control over the lens aperture. You can set your aperture ex. f/8 with lens mounted to camera then when the DOF preview button is pressed take the lens off the camera and then mount it to the tubes. However now that the lens set at f/8 it lets in much less light, getting the subject in focus is much much harder.

But like themadman said: umm.. well... it's only $9, why not try ??? (I personally wouldn't)

Yes but you can't control aperture with those. unless you use old lens with aperture ring you need full automatic extension tubes.

Imo, either go real cheap (ie the ones in your fist post) or get the kenko ones.

I have both sets myself, having bought the cheapies a while ago. The worst thing about them is that they dont click firmly into the lens mount and will rotate, I do worry a bit about my lens mount if I use them.

The cheapies will give you a taste of macro, but are a pain in the ass to use. If you're in any way serious, or concerned about quality, get the kenkos.

I stay confused as usual but can't you still make aperture changes manually with these tubes in place?

this last one only have AF confirm contacts, not capable of transmitting aperture changes. (much like an MF lens adapter with AF chip).

If you want to control aperture you need full automatic tubes (+100$).
