Hi all,
managed a few hours out on new years day. I think I need some more time with my 40d and 400 5.6L the shots look ok on the camera but not so good back on my computer.
These were the best of about 300 shots.

Thanks for viewing and any comments.

Oh and happy new year to everyone. :)

Well nothing wrong with those images, I'd be pleased to have taken any of those.

Nice like #1 shot best. I don't know what the answer is, but I have the same problem, look real nice on the camera, but crappy on the monitor, not all the time though... ugh

Still a nice series and variety. I think the "imperfections" are there on the camera screne but it is just so compressed and small that you can't see them until the bigger image on the computor screne allows them to "bloom". I think we all have the same problem.

A coot in the air???? Around here they'll flap enough for their feet to slap across the water and then they'll drop back down- never saw one more than a foot off the water! Love that shot.

Wish we could see your exif because I definitely experience the same thing on the camera LCD- looks great there- but falls apart on the computer. Would be interested to compare your settings to what I attempt in similar conditions. What was the light like BTW- I see some blue in some of the water- another one looks a little brighter/grayer?
What about the distance- how much crop?

We could maybe all learn something.

Jim

Thanks Jim.
I use the canon software Zoombrowser ex for processing my shots, i take it that this loses the exif?

The light was reasonable but not the best, the reflection off the snow hepled. Shots were taken between 8.30am and 10 am new years day. using a tripod. All were cropped slightly. I'd say the inflights were at about 40 meters.

shot settings were:
1 iso 800 tv 1/1000 av 5.6
2 iso 800 tv 1/400 av 5.6
3 iso 320 tv 1/800 av 5.6
4 iso 320 tv 1/250 av 8.0
5 iso 800 tv 1/500 av 5.6
6 so 800 tv 1/800 av 5.6

Looking through some more exifs i think aperture of around f8 give better detail.
