They needed the II so they could compete with the new Nikon 70-200 VR II. The 70-200 is kindof an old lens now. I'm sure it'll be slightly improved, maybe a bit faster to focus to match the new cameras or slightly better glass, but i'll definitely not be selling my V1.

Supposedly:

More glass, better optics.
Better/faster AF
Shorter MFD
Improved IS - allows up to 4 more stops of SS.


All press release hype but it reads well. Can't figure out what the street price will be though.
