I've been looking around these forums and the web for a while now and have narrowed down a new bag purchase to either the Think Tank Urban Disguise 60 (external link) or the Tenba Messenger (external link). Right now I'm leaning more towards the Tenba as they both seem equally capable, but I like the style of the Tenba better.

Before I do that, I wanted to see if anyone else here was using something different for daily use that can hold a 15" Laptop, an SLR and 2-3 lenses and how you like/dislike it.

Thanks!

I'm using the Kata R-103 when I need to put in the laptop a camera or 2 and 3-4 lenses.

Both the UD-60 and Tenba Small Messenger are fairly large size and roughly the same dimensions. I have looked at both and liked them both, but I bought the UD-60. The top opening is the big difference to me and I am still not sure which I prefer.

The UD-60 has a zipper-slot opening which is easy to work out of, but more difficult to initially get the camera/lens combo through. The Tenba has a flip-top which makes getting the camera/lens into and out-of easier, but seems to get in the way when I am using it (i.e. switching lenses). The UD-60 seemed a bit slimmer when loaded, but they are both pretty large. I can easily carry 2 cameras mounted with lenses in the UD-60 plus an additional lens or two and a flash.

I do like the Tenba insert (used in the messenger) and have two of them which I use in non-camera bags. I find the size of that insert perfect for my 3 lens zoom (large) with camera outings. Since I like it separately, I would probably like the Tenba bag which uses it also.

I only carry a 13" thin Apple laptop, and it fits with room to the side for the card reader, charger and cables without having to put them in the bag pockets thus keeping the slim profile for the bag. A 15" laptop would not be able to do that.

Hope that helps a bit ...

That helps a bunch, thanks! I hadn't really looked at the top access so much - the UD-60 looks like it has the better access.

I have the Tenba bag. It's nice, but it will not carry a lot of gear with the laptop unless you get the largest size. I didn't because I have a 13.3 inch laptop, and now it's got my medium format camera and lens in it instead of my 5D2 and tele's. They don't fit. It's a nice bag, but not in the same league, IMO to Think Tanks or Kata bags.

Unfortunately I don't like backpacks, which really limits my options. I ride my bike to work and hate backpacks in cold weather when I'm all bulked up with a jacket. I also don't think I'd be happy with a backpack for how long it takes to get in and out of them.

I think I'm now sold on the Tenba. Its a bit more stylish and I'll be using it for everyday use going back and forth to work. I have a Domke F2 for when I need to pack a full bag. I just need a nice way to carry a laptop, camera and a couple lenses every day. Most days it would probably just be the 20D without the grip and a 70-200 2.8 and either the 60mm Macro or 10-22mm. I don't want to be lugging that much weight every day. I am leaning towards the large just to make it a bit more roomy even though I have the 15" MBP.

I took a look at the Kata bags and didn't really see anything that I liked or thought would be comfortable enough ride with daily.

Thanks to everyone who pitched in!

I use the UD 60 and it is a wonderful bag. It is very simple looking but so functional and flexible. I can even fit my 17" macbook pro without issue along with as much cam gear as my back can stand.
