Yea, it's the same IPS screen, except it'll accept every input the U2410/2408WFP had, 6ms lag, and 12bit processing with DCC/DI (at least according to initial reports, who knows if it will help or be like the 2408 version)

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

You'll be able to catch it around $850 if you are lucky (in the first 18mo), and within two years you'll find it creeping on $600 on very lucky days ;)

So who has some Dell coupons they don't want to use...? :)

This is actually kind of frustrating, I've just about saved up enough money for the U2410, and was all ready to go buy one within the month, and now this comes out! If I could get it for $800 I'd have no problem saving another couple hundred, but it's MSRP is almost double the U2410!

How to afford a Dell U2711:
-Work some overtime or take a second job.
-Don't buy lunch for two weeks (pack a PB&J in a brown paper bag)
-Don't buy Starbucks (or crack) ever.
-Sell some of your rarely used equipment before it becomes obsolete.

Or just wait another month. My job gives me plenty of money, I just wasn't expecting to pay that much for a monitor, simply because one in that size/price range didn't exist when I started saving! Yay technology?

Not sure you know what you're talking about...
Same price range: 24" Apple Cinema Display, NEC displays, low end EIZOs
Same size range: 2708WFP (~$800), 3008WFP (~$1200)
Same resolution: 3008WFP (well, technically it's the same thing in 16:10 rather than 16:9)

They existed, you just didn't get excited about them. Means dell's done something amazingly right this time :D

Are the 2708WFP/3008WFP IPS panels? I expect not the same resolution, which is a big deal for me. I always thought it rather silly to buy a big monitor that can't display anymore than a smaller one...but I've got good eyes for up close work so that helps .

2708 and 2408 are PVA (same quality as an HIPS screen in 99.999% of cases, just faster refresh and higher contrast over IPS)
3008 is either S-PVA or S-IPS, but you don't really know until you get it. In either case, you won't know the difference with either screen, both are very good and comparable techs.

That is a no-brainer over the Apple displays. And just about every other display under $1500.

Monitor looks mint!!

Apple doesn't have any competitive standalone monitors anymore

Hoff was most certainly comparing it to the 27" iMac.

Personally, this monitor+dvi+vga+hdmi+displayport=iMac screen that can actually be useful, without wasting $600 on garbage innards of the base 27"

basroil,

I have to admit.. I really like the form factor of the iMac. However only QUAD CPU option is worth getting in my opinion. Base model is just underpowered and over priced.
