Got bored started playing around with my Canon 50mm 1.4 using my IPHONE (camera left) as my light source. Shot at 1600 ISO, 1/30sec @ F2.0 on my tripod. It came out a little noiser than I hoped.

Great idea! Never thougth about that but with the "Flashlight" application on the iPhone you cannot only make white but also coloured light. Thanks for that idea!

About the shot: nice cup. The noise is not distracting. Did you process and try noise reduction?

Thanks for being bored!

1600 @ f2 really doesn't give you room to play. I think it came out pretty darn good myself.

Where's the aroma swirls coming off the top of the coffee though? :p

The noise looks good, almost like film grain. Nice thinking. Well done!

Thanks :)

It was pretty much straight out of camera. I just resized and straightened it.

My flashlight app was not as bright, so I used the light from the brightness (max) setting on the phone.

I have no particular opinion about the desirability of the noise, but the good thing about having a tripod is you can set your ISO lower, even try out a few levels if you want to have noise. Nice result anyway... got a certain dreaminess to it. Cheers, Tony
