I would get the body alone and skip the hassle of selling stuff off, but that's just me. Then get the 24-70mm f/2.8 or any other largest aperture you can get/afford.

I don't think I would have bought the kit if I didn't have a trip planned that seemed to justify the 24-105 instead of my 24-70. The idea of selling the lens did not appeal to me, but I decided it would be worth it because of the 10 days I'd get to use the lens. Of course, 6 months later, I still have both lenses--and won't be selling the 24-105.

i bought the body and then the 24-105L... i had the 24-70L but sold it. The 24-105L is so good for travelling that i used it most of the time during my trip to Europe and ASIA for the past 6weeks. Didn't even draw out my 70-200mm at all......

Right guys, I've decided my next camera will be a 5d2 thanks to all the information and advice I've gained from here.

So, I've been thinking about my general purpose zoom - basically the 24-70 vs 24-105 debate. I've decided that I would rather the 24-70 as I shoot moving things more often than static ones. However, the 5d2 kit means I can get my hands on a 24-105 for a great deal. I'm also hesitant in sinking about £1000 into a 24-70 when a refresh is possibly just round the corner. I would want to wait until feb has passed as there are rumours flying round about an update on the 9th.

So with the discount of the 24-105 and the fact that I won't miss out on the new lens by a few weeks, I'm considering starting with the 24-105. I guess that can either go two ways. I love the lens and keep it or I don't and sell it. I just fell a bit weird paying that much money for a lens I don't really want! But I won't know til I've tried it right?

Can anyone pitch in with their experiences/regrets about buying a 5d2 with or without the kit? Did anyone else not really want the 24-105, get it, and end up loving it?

Good to hear that there'll be another new member of 5d2 owner.
Anyway, do you plan to sell your 450d?
If you would keep it, then i think 24105L is suitable for you, considering your budget.
If you sell 450d, i would add more lens: 1740L & 85 1.8 or 100L macro or 135L.. :D
Those L primes are LOVELY on 5d2 !

the 450d is staying with the 1855 & 55-250 for the misus.

I've recently picked up an 85mm 1.8 and should have some budget left over for either a 17-40 and something else or a 16-35.

You'll love the 17-40 (or 16-35) on the 5d, but I'd hold off purchasing it until you've had a chance to play with the 24-105--or the 24-70. They are very wide on the 5d, so you may decide you don't need anything wider. I have the 17-40, but very rarely use it any more--of course lots of people use it all the time on full frame, but that's just not as much my style.

since the 5D MKII has clean high iso capabilities, I would think the 24-105 would work fine in low light? Am I wrong in this frame of thinking...
