Are these any good? I did a little PP in DPP to adjust colors. The second one I straightened some in PSE. The lighting was not very good with the cloud cover and it was late in the afternoon. Bottom Photo seems a little dark I think. I really have no idea what I'm doing yet and from what I've seen, these are really not worthy but I gotta start somewhere. :o

These are pretty good & you have a nice rotor blur.

The lighting was not very good with the cloud cover and it was late in the afternoon. Bottom Photo seems a little dark I think.

It might need a touch of contrast boost, but it looks like evening when I prefer to shoot, & I'm on my laptop so I can't be sure. I might have tried to get more to the left to shoot #2.

Thanks. I shot these at around 3:30 which about when the light starts to fade in these parts. There was also a weather front moving in from the west which didn't help.

This was the first chance I've had to photograph an aircraft and see if I could capture some rotor blur. I thought I did ok. I'll play with the contract a bit more and see if I can lighten it up a little. It looks darker on my work computer than at home.

I do wish they were a bit sharper like some of the photos I see on here. Oh well, one thing at a time.

Very nice pics. a little dark for me, but like the rotor blur you achieved, never easy :-)

when you resize, you should also resharpen for that size. If you shoot RAW, you should sharpen evey size you convert from it.

Your self critique on these is spot on - the light is poor etc
no doubt with your sound technique when you get some good light, we will see you posting better images
well done and stick at it

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. I shoot RAW and tweak it in DPP, convert to JPG and resize to 800 x XXX, and upload to Photobucket.

So do I need to open the JPG an sharpen again in PSE before I upload?

Sorry for the n00b questions.... :o

you can bring out better lighting if you tweak the levels (mostly the middle slider) in photoshop!

Yes. I'd use USM at about 100, 0.6-8, 2 for that size, but there are a lot of setting combinations that would work.
Sticky: Sharpening Tips & Tricks, Tutorials, and FAQ

And since you're using PhotoBucket, be aware that PB might resize again when you upload if you don't set the preferences to avoid that? From their support:

Before uploading your images to your Photobucket account, choose either a
display or file size that is equal to or larger than that of your images. You
can do this by clicking on the 'Uploading Options' link in your upload panel
and then on the radio button next to your preferred size. If an option is
grayed out, this means the option is not available for your Photobucket
account type. Selecting a size larger than your images will prevent further
resizing upon upload and help expedite the upload process. To make the changes
permanent, you must upload at least one image from the upload panel. This is
important for Pro users using FTP or anyone using the Windows XP Publisher. If
you choose to use the file size options, the file size of the original image
will take precedence over the the display size and any display size is
accepted as long as the file size is less than your choice in the 'Uploading
Options'.

I always click on the image to get the 100% size that I've uploaded, & then use that URL for display.
