I'm looking to pick a sample pack of color gels to use with my Elinchrom D-Lites. Elinchrom offers a 10 pack of colors for the 8 1/4" standard reflector but the pack is pretty pricey with a limited color selection. Rosco also makes a 15 pack for about the same money but the colors for that pack all seem too pastel.

Anyone have any recommendations for a good selection of color gels (at least 8.5 x 8.5 inches) for a reasonable price?

Thanks!

Mark

Mark, where are you llocated? Here in the Bay Area I buy from several sources but the best is Musson Theatrical. Any theatre or stage prop company will have a great selection.

If your not working with modeling lights(because of heat issues) and you want ULTRA cheap, a few layers of colored saran wrap over the reflector works fantastic for adding color to lighting...most 99 cent stores carry it in several colors.

Stretch each layer tight over the reflector as smoothly as possible...you can use a rubber band around the reflector if it wont cling to it...3 layers ive found works well.
