Rubha na Cille...Landscape or portrait format ?

Both shots are of a small promontory called Rubha na Cille on the Kintyre peninsula, west coast of Scotland.
I can't make my mind up which I prefer.

The portrait version best suits the lay of the land (I think) but I'm leaning towards the landscape format.

Help !!!

Bear in mind the portrait version is smaller for ease of viewing. This might bias your judgement, therfore I have included a link to larger views below each shot.

Thanks in advance,
Cameron

Hi Cameron,

I think the portrait one has the edge, but they are both stunning.

If you've got enough wall space, go for both! :D

Thanks Trevor,
So that's portrait 1 - landcspe 0.

As for wall space, if I print both 6x4 I might get away with it. :)

Both are really nice but I happen to prefer the landscape shot. Much grander scope.

Sometimes you just have to live with them a while. Put one in one room, the other in another? ;-)a

Joe, I tend to agree.
I think the fact that it's a promontory suggests a portrait, but the sky demands the lansdcape format.

Also on the landscape the foreground starts wide, narrows in and then expands for the backdrop and sky.
I think there's some balance there.

Thanks for the input.

I'm thinking of entering one in the BBC Landscape of Britain competition and would prefer to enter just one.

Sorry Frank, should have made that clear.

I like them both a great deal, but, on balance, I'd go for the portrait shot. It is more unusual, and has more foreground interest. But it's a close thing!

OK, I think I'd go with #1 without the white crud in the foreground. I might burn in the first 10-20% at the bottom to help lead the eye into the shot.

Cameron,
I don't think you need my opinion now! LOL
I'm afraid, I'm with everyone elses opinion.

I think if it had been me shooting the portrait one I'd have gone for two thirds sky and a third land - people might disagree with that but when you have a sky like yours then in my eye its two thirds of the interest of image.

Regards

David, I always value your opinion.

I agree with you. I was trying to get too much in with the portrait shot.
I was always leaning towards the landscape and most people seem to prefer it.
OK, I'll go with the Landscape.

Thanks guys.

Both absolutely stunning, but, I would prefer the bottom one on my wall (if I had a choice).

They're both excellent images but the landscape version is the richer image IMHO.
:-)
