So while on holiday vacation I picked up a lens pen Filter-Klear. Can anyone tell me how this differs, if it does, from any other lens pen? Is there are reason this is designated for filters, but not lenses? Here is a link to what I have. http://www.amazon.com …ter-Cleaner/dp/B002NGOMWQ (external link)

I have no idea. Even going to the Lenspen website doesn't really shed any light. Perhaps just a marketing gimmick to get you to buy another product.

I kind of suspected that. The clerk in the camera store at first told me they didnt carry lens pens, then when I grabbed that off the rack said... Oh thats only for filters, and tried to sell me their "special blend" of liquid cleaner. I'm not too worried as I generally have filters on my lenses but wondered if there was a distinction.

Smaller tip size, somewhat triangular in shape to reach the corners of the sensor.

Sensor?! I know they have a sensor product, but the FilterKlear is big round and definitely not going anywhere near my sensor.

is the tip flat? because on my original lens pen, it's kinda concave so it forms to the outer element of my lenses. i'm guessing this one is "supposedly" just for filters.

Yes its flat. Perhaps thats the difference, but that takes product differentiation to a new low.

The lens pen seems to be labeled by many different retailers including Nikon, Adorama, etc. They all look identical, and different colors, some with camouflage colored plastic. They are also sold in other markets such as telescopes, rifle scopes, etc.

I have one for my lenses and the cleaning tip is round. I also have one for LCD screens and the tip is a fat triangle. Not sure if they differ other than the tip design.

I spoke to a Lenspen rep about them, and they are flat so as to better clean a flat filter. Lens pens are curved to (Hopefully) better clean the curved front element of a typical lens.

Thanks for the clarification. I suspected that the product was probably safe for all lenses not just filters. But the clerk at the store implied the difference was more than that. And they wonder why so many of us dont trust the local camera stores these days.
