Just thought I would share this (external link) using Apple's automator.

I don't know if people are aware or if its a repost, but I have been looking for a good way to back up my photos. The only thing I don't know is how to run the task once the workflow has opened so if anyone has anything to add that would be great!

Kind of pointless unless your mac crashes in the middle of your work that often, and come LR3, it will be entirely useless.

LR2 has built in catalog backups, and you can already chose where you put it (LR3 also has them, but instead of backing up before starting, it backs up after closing). LR2 also lets you back up files on import, again, to any folder you want. So what ends up happening is that you can easily back up everything just by turning on the program and importing photos, no need to use the automator. I suggest you download the LR3 beta and see if that fixes all your issues.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

I understand what you are saying, and I am aware of the catalog being backed up, but those are not the actual photo files are they? It only backups the catalog files. Whilst my Mac is not prone to crashing, its nice to have a few backups rather than just time machine.

EDIT: Just looked at the backup on import! I hadn't spotted that, I'm still not keen, as it doesn't have the same folder structure, even with selecting a new subfolder on import. Instead you get a folder "Imported on 8th January".

There's a way around that, forgot what it was though, since I just use the backup feature in windows 7... can be set to automatically do that ;).

Nicely put in there;)

My Mac will backup automatically with time machine, however I just want something more separate. If you do remember a way round it please do share!
