Allright, sitting here, my little girl is asleep, watching Top Gear I DVR'd (the Nissan GT-R one, where Jeremy races the GT-R against Richard and Jeremy using public transportation in Japan), having some Sailor Jerry's on the rocks and I'm thinking...
F.
Is the 5D2 all it's cracked up to be?

The noise performance is awesome!
-Sure better noise handling than the 5D, hands down. BUT, if I want GOOD high ISO performance, I'm grabbing my Mark III.

21 MP is awesome!
-No it's not...I end up resizing to 11/12 roughly and everyone is happy.

Video is cool.
-Ok, yes, I admit it, video is cool.

The AF is still ok, but not great.
-Can I please have a larger AF point spread, Canon?

FF is cool and I can't leave that behind.
-It wouldn't be my primary choice, but it's nice to have.

MA is a must
-I actually believe this, for primes to be at their best

The LCD is good now!
-This is true but you know what I've learned, the LCD should be trusted for one thing only. Camera info and the histogram.

Maybe there's more? I wish I could jump to the 1DSmkIII but it's just not there. I wish I thought moving back to the 5DC (and maybe grabbing a 135L) was the right move but I do love live view, video, and MA.

I also wish Canon would have done a bit more with the II but oh well. PM me if you have a 5DC and 135L and want to trade for a 5DII

The 5DC is still one hell of a camera.

Thoughts?
Discuss?
Stir the pot?

You should do some side-by-side comparisons, I'd be curious to see. Most folks say it's a pretty even match, or even leans to the 5D if you downsize the files.

I did - My last wedding was shot in the dark - literally. The noise of the 5D is really patterned, the Mark III has a more natural film grain to it.

These aren't the same staged shots of course, just the same exposures used on two different cameras, two different lenses...

Thats another thing I love about my 1DIII, very unpredictable noise pattern or I should say lack of pattern. :D

You can talk me out of my 5DII with a loaded shotgun to my head ... that's about what it would take.

Jetcode, if your not happy with what you have then your not happy. :D
I am glad you like your 5DII so much, infact I wish I had one to go with my 1DIII as it does some tricks that mine just cant. :)

That combo of bodies is just awesome! :D

Whatever body you get or don't get, do get the 135L! Beautiful on full frame and crop.

The problem for Canon is that if they made the perfect camera and addressed everyone's desires, how would they manage to sell the next generation? I am certainly caught up in the desire to own the next new model with extra bells and whistles. I never felt like that when I was using my Nikon film SLR or my Hasselblad.

I think the Mark 3 blows away the 5D2 at ISO 100 - 200, but the 5D2 has the detail advantage at high ISO

DPP Raw conversions, all parameters disabled/at zero

Threads like this (and my own personal experience) make me glad I got the 1D3 over the 5DmkII when replacing one of my 5DCs... I will still probably get a 5DmkII eventually, but I'm not parting with my 135L, so no deal!
