Didn't scare me off! lol I've been sick so haven't really been on to reply. Kinda lost me on some of the lingo, but that's okay. I think right now I'm just going to avoid that hour of the day, I have messed with my white balance and haven't done it correctly, obviously.

Quite honestly, and this sounds dumb - I know. I'm a bit overwhelmed with shooting in raw. I DONT KNOW WHY! lol. I only have GIMP - and am getting the Elements on Thursday so - maybe I will dive in with the raw and stop being a baby about it.

No Katie...
Don't avoid that time of the day - sunrise and sunset and about an hour either side is the best time of the day to get out with the camera.
Embrace it.

Ah. Good. Glad you're feeling healthy again (I hope).

You're right, you do need to use a program that works for you.

Actually, though, DPP (which came with your camera) will do a very good job of color balance. Give it a shot...

Katie, dont be afraid of RAW. Although it seems daunting having to process all your images, it is in fact very easy especially with ones you captured properly (simply running the batch processor for converting to Jpeg).

RAW is actually easier in some respects in that if you dont "nail" the shot, you have quite a large scope in which you can get the shot back (White balance, exposure, highlight/shadow detail).

Elements is a very good program with a lot of the power of CS4.

Katie,,as js mentioned install DPP which came with your camera and give it a try.. It's a very simple programme to get your head around and a whole lot of fun to use..

If you are worried about shooting RAW you can always shoot RAW+Jpeg.. Try shooting something that isn't too important to you and have a play..

Experimentation is the key if you aren't too sure until you discover what works best for you.. Everyone has a different workflow and neither is wrong nor right..
