Hello, I recently purchased 7d and im now trying to edit some videos on my computer. I tried to use premiere pro cs4 and magix movie editor but it tells me that the video is not compatible on both.

What do I need to do? Do I need to convert the files? or do I just need to install some codecs on my computer? Thanks!!! :)

Pinnacle Studio 14 is supposed to import 7D files without transcoding. They have a free trial download available.

=Beanie's Dad;9365820]Sony Vegas Movie Studio works well too.

I don't have a 7D, but I've used Sony Vegas Movie Studio, and Vegas Pro, for years with good results on HD Video. I think it even comes with DVD Architect now, which lets you make interactive menus and burn to DVD easily (and BluRay on some newer versions.. but maybe that's just Vegas Pro).

Seems you have a powerhouse of a computer and shouldn't really have any performance issues, so i'm wondering if it's software related. Granted it could be an issue with the ATI card. Make sure you have the latest updates for it and check if Pinnacle has any known issues with that card.

what sor of trouble are you having exactly?

I use Adobe Premier Pro. ...much happier using it vs. Pinnacle Studio 12.

I've done quite a bit of video editing, and I have the 7D.
I have used Premire Pro CS3 with the 7D
I have used Sony Vegas Pro 8 & 9 with the 7D

I'm going to reccomend straight up: Sony Vegas Pro 9.
I think it's great, very responsive, great built in effects, great sound managment... great everything!
Premiere Pro is good too, but I just don't think its as responsive and intuitive as Vegas.

One thing I will mention is you will need to TRANSCODE THE MOV. FILES FROM THE CAMERA.
The files are hefty, and editing the raw files is difficult even for top end computers.
You can reder all your footage to avi. or something with the codec's built in to the software...
oooor, the best option, buy a good codec (like Cineform Neocene) then transcode to avi. that way.
The quality will be great, and playback will be smooth.

I've made a few short films with the 7D and although it's quite hard to handle, it has the potential to blow a lot of dedicated video cameras out the water.

Good luck!

EDIT: Okay you have CS4, do you have a recent version of quicktime? Software needs the quicktime plugin to support the mov. files... just install quicktime as normal, reboot and it should sort itself out.

When editing the clips they are Jerky and in turn throughs the sound out of sync
