Apparently Canon will be coming out with at new 70-200 2.8 IS Mk II. As an owner of this particular lens MkI now, I must say that I'm completely happy with it. What is it that the new version will actually do better than the current version?

Take advantage of the focus system in the 7D and 1D Mark IV. I can't wait!

?? That doesn't make sense, and was never mentioned by any sources. The only stated improvements in the Canon release were: improved IS, improved optics, improved ergonomics, fancy new lens hood, higher new price.

From the 1D IV manual

"When the EF70-200mm f/2.8L USM is used with an Extender, use the
center AF point only. The other AF points may cause a focusing error."

There was some ambiguous statement on the press release about the new version having an autofocus that is optimized for the 7D and 1D Mark IV but I haven't seen anything quantifiable yet. Maybe someone else can provide some info.
