I am talking about the originals not the mark II's just to clarify. I have been thinking about buying a FF body to go with a 135L lens. What I would like to know is if anyone has experience with both of these cameras. How is the upper ISO performance between the two. I would like to shoot some portraits as well as early evening outdoor events.
I have a 1D classic as well as an XT along with a Sigma 70-200 f/2.8 EX DG along with a 85L and Tamron 70-300.
I would like to stay in the $2000 to $2300 range in case anyone can suggest alternatives.

I would do 1ds over 5d. Because you probably are familiar with the 1d interface.

If you are in Canada or the US you're listed budget will get you a 1DsMk2, which is a GREAT camera. However if you're looking at comparing a 5D and 1Ds (they should be in the $1000-$1200 range) the 5D is a better camera especially over ISO 400. I've owned both & speak from actual use.

Did I really post $23000, wow I wish I had that kind of budget.:D
All corrected now.
I am going to pick up a 135l in a few weeks so I should say my budget allows up to $1300 on an additional body. From the posts so far it seems I'm torn between a 1D MII and 5D Classic. I hope whichever body I decide complements the lens choice. Thanks for the suggestions everyone.

Since you asked about ISO, the 5D beats the 1D2 in that department

I figure I will have to sacrifice or bump up the ISO to allow a faster SS or give myself a decent aperture such as f/5.6 to f/8 in low light situations. A FF camera would be nice with the larger pixels, so I will keep that in mind, thanks.

2008 we were shooting weddings with both an original 1Ds and a couple of 5D's as our main cameras. Choice between the two depends on what is important to you.

1Ds has a much better autofocus, and is built like a tank.

5D has much better ISO, better rear screen, faster speed writing to CF, and is also a lot lighter to carry around.

Rob
