...when there is a movie with a photojournalist shooting a film camera, there is always the sound effect of a motor drive to advance the film and cock the shutter, when the camera clearly is of a vintage to not have that feature built in and there is no externally mounted motor drive?

....and they use the same noise for a digital SLR, although there is no film to wind?!

What's your "Why do that do that?" question?

Why does Wilt post questions like this?

:)

Seriously, I've noticed some idiotic movie/tv photographers (actors that is) - why do they always seem to be using manual focus, or zooming in and out non stop? I've seen fast paced scenes and there's the photographer manually focusing on a camera and lens combo that has great auto. Or zooming in and out and my guess is they think it's the focus. Is it to make it look like they're doing something and making the scene look more dramatic with fast movement?

You're just now figuring out that Horrywood is stupid?

The Bullitt chase scene. Steve McQueen was a motorhead and should have known better. "He" must have shifted that Mustang allegedly at high speed enough to make it an 8 speed

The stupid double clutching was even worse, but WORSE, Horrywood pirated that same distinctive sound track into OTHER movies and TV shows, one notably I think the "Seven Ups" wherein the chase scene---OMG a red light!!! so the camera shows the BIG WIDE POWER BRAKE PEDAL of an automatic equipped car after airing the formentioned stick shift "Bullitt" sound track

Fords and Chivvies starting up--with Chrysler gear reduction starters.

I could go on, but my fingers hurt.

Horrywood is stupid.

I've found that pretty much any time Hollywood shows a subject I have more knowledge of than the average person, they get it completely wrong.

Just as, to this day, Hollywood-special mainframe computers still display output text at about 600-1200 Baud. You can watch each character appear on the screen in sequence.

I love it, too, when the characters make noise as they appear on the screen, as though the terminal were a printer.

That annoys me along with the constant focusing/zooming.

I've always wondered how they get all those people and places in that tiny little box to begin with.

The Bullitt chase scene.

Next time you watch it, count the hubcaps that the bad guys' car loses during the chase.

You mean, my DSLR isn't supposed to make those noises when I shoot? ;)

Add any of the TV crime solving shows to this with "zoom and enhance". THIS IS NOT BLADERUNNER, DAMMIT! ;)

But it at least spawned a nice retort by the folks at Red Dwarf: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KUFkb0d1kbU (external link)

 I was only complaining about this the other night when I was watching a film! I can't remember which one it was, but it's something that crops up all the time in films, which is good because I get to complain about something!

My other favourite one is where they show a 'binoculars view' as two partially merged circles instead of the correct circular view. I was complaining about that the other night when I was watching something too!

It's Hollywood where all phone numbers begin with 555, tires squeal on dirt roads, and all the laws of physics cease to exist.

In response to any of the car comments, any of the Fast & Furious movies pretty much sum up Hollywood's stupidity and exaggerations.

On the camera perspective, I watched Transsiberian the other day and all of these things were in there as well.
