i dont know if its a fault with the camera or not

No it isn't visible on the top LCD screen in M mode. It isn't a camera fault, in M you don't dial in EC, you adjust the exposure by other means, e.g. ISO. You then view exposure changes on the viewfinder or LCD.

I had rented the 5D3 for a while and I think for my purposes the 1DIV is much better in every aspect. Also, the 1DIV was much more expensive to begin with.
