Well the eagle I got to follow for a few moments, probably 30 seconds (a pain bare handed at 2F); I was late out of the chute on this hawk-

...I am getting the 1DX not just for the better AF and Image Quality but also because whether I keep the 1D IV or not, I am getting the same setup Financially. My intention is to have the 17-40L, 50 STM, 70-200 IS II, 300 f4L and with the 1D IV I can get those lenses brand new, But why do that when I can get two lenses used. Save the money and get the 1DX. 300mm f4L is slow at AF but I am managing enough for now till I get a proper Telephoto lens...:-P

Check with Canon Price Watch and Greentoe if you are looking for a new 1Dx. They have great deals on them.

Always check them, Was going to get one new but a user on the forum is selling his for $3100 in great condition.

Going to test the lens on a T6s tomorrow to see if it's 100% the lens and if it is I might be keeping the 1D IV. :-)

Wanted to see how well the 1D IV does in extreme Low Light Panning Cars and despite my Lens being slow at AF, It was still able to lock on cars no problem. The Front head lights would occasionally mess with the AF System but still performed great overall. :-)

Just compared the lens on a T6s and What a difference. Went into my Kitchen and set up two subjects. One decently lit and the other in shade barely lit. The 1D did pretty good focusing on the lit subject but the one in the shade took a good 2-3 seconds to pull focus meanwhile the T6s focus with no issues. I did this back and forth on both cameras and the t6s blew the 1D Mark IV out of the water. It is not a lens issue. Something is either wrong with my Body or it's just an old AF system. And yes for the 100th time, I have messed with Tracking Sensitivity, During this test I tried every one from Slowest to Default to fastest. Made no different. The camera has trouble pulling focus period. Now to be fair, I will take it outside in a bit to further test this but so far I am not liking how it's going.

I also did a test shooting a tree from inside through a Window, The T6s focus perfectly almost instantly on the three branch through blinds where the 1D Mark IV kept hunting and hunting. I think I solved my issue.

Edit: Someone please post a screenshot of your Custom Function settings, I don't want to come across as trashing the camera. I want to further test this more.

If you believe it's has a focus issue send it to Canon (NJ) for an inspection. It's possible there's an issue. I had to get mine adjusted a while back.

Sky a bit overcast. Focus is quick with the DOii.
ISO up to 2000 is (to me not an issue).
Tracking is as good as I am.
One problem though.....remember I bought used....when I depress the shutter button half way the LCD display (the little one) on top of the camera gets real dim, seriously dim, almost unreadable. Is this a problem? Well yes but clinically insignificant as long as it doesn't translate to other problems.

Bazz that is a very kind offer. Well you can't prove Lock and Dam 14 has lots of eagles by my efforts but as I type the river is freezing over and those fortunate to be there later today will be in for a real treat. Sadly I'll be on a plane homeward bound.
Now about those kangaroos. I've always wondered why someone didn't sneak some into the US and let them go in one of our areas that are like OZ. Hmmmm....

Whoever is going to be at Lock and Dam 14 today (not us, got a flight to catch) will be in for a treat. The river is freezing over at a rapid rate. The eagles will be congregating there AND they eagle photographers will be 'throwing' fish today. We were 1 week early. That's what we get for booking flights 11 months in advance :( Is what it is but with trips planned almost monthly we just the best we can :)
Anyway, another eagle from the crap overcast sky of yesterday...this one a juve. I can say that whatever setting I stumbled on with the 1Div just works for tracking the birds-

I've never noticed this, but I don't pay any attention to the top lcd. I will have to check it out.

Larry had his 1Div there and I also had the 7Dii, so all the camera bodies were roughly at the same balmy temperature (9F) but only
my 1Div had the dimming top LCD and since all the other screens were bright we know it wasn't a battery issue.
Like you Methodical I rarely use that screen. I have to stop whatever and use the reading glasses to see it :(
We'll see if other things begin to fail over time.

.. I have gone through the menus on the 1D Mark IV, I have yet to find any custom button layout.

I explained how to do this in a previous reply to you a few days back here;
