Thanks Jay. They are fun to shoot, don't know which I like better...I just think the females beauty more sublime.

OK finally home.
I'm new to this thread but a lot know I love owls.
I know many photographers go to Moline for eagles.
We knew Moline wasn't going to be production for eagles several
weeks before going....but the tickets were bought 11 months ago
so we went with other dreams! I'm worn out from the travel day and must
nap, but when I wake up I'll get some pics up of him flying :)

Thank you very much Annie. I was trembling. Still 'high' from the experience.
I'll tell anyone I'm not a 'birder' but maybe an 'owler' Ha! I actually dream of
them on a weekly basis....having awakened several times swearing I'm hearing them;
once running outside to look--nothing of course.
In three weeks we're headed to Canada to see if we can get lucky again. Fingers crossed.

This one I got to 'properly' develop on the computer here at home where I can see what I'm doing versus the dinky travel
laptop. I did the re-size to fit POTN. Let's see how it turned out.
I can say at this point that the 1Div tracks as well as the 7Dii and I do think the 1Div has the edge on ISO--again I cheat and use DXO Optic's Prime for noise reduction, it's got to be the best I've ever used especially for Sony files. It might be psychological me thinking the 1Div has the edge because I bought it hoping it would, if that makes any sense. Regardless the 1Div is very capable and I noticed at the dam I wasn't the only one shooting 1Div. While out 'owling' I shot with a guy using a 1DX, he missed the flight shots (that's OK, he's got plenty previously), so it's often not the camera but a huge chunk of luck and timing.....

I got a long flight sequence but won't bore with the whole series.
Here is another with wings in a more regal position I think. I resized
to 1024 on the wide for POTN. I don't know enough about the subtleties
or processing but somehow it's less of a pic after resizing. Matters not to
me I still like it and at home I get to see it full size :)

There is a lot wrong with this next one, even a hobbyist like me can see, biggest wrong is that I'd hoped to get his eye between the feathers like on this one (won't post here
not with a 1Div)-
https://www.flickr.com …6746892037/in/dateposted/ (external link)
So it was close :(
This trip was also a study of how the 1Div works with the 400DOii and I'm good with that combo. Poof was shooting in the same area ~we were about 8 feet apart~ and I put
a 300/2.8 IS II on her 70D. She did good but didn't get any of the flight. Maybe she should have been using the 7Dii, it was sitting on the ground with a 100-400ii on it...who knows,
there is always hindsight eh?
Now a thought on the DO. I was hopping around, trying to tuck in and hide in some big pine trees. While waiting on this GHO we could here him answer the call, so I'd move with me
thinking he was coming from one particular direction. There is just no way I could have moved from pine to pine with a tripod in tow. And more on luck, there was one branch that was
clear and that's the one he chose :)
OK, enough Canon for a couple of weeks. Sometimes EOS stuff feels like work (esp. carrying 3 bodies two miles at 9F not to mention the wind). I'm going to play with my Lumix for a couple
of weeks....

Even though I may be enjoying the AF and tracking of the 7DII more at the moment (but that may be just as it is a new toy to me) I am still loving the colours that the 1DIV produces.

That was among the first things I noticed when I got my 1D IV.... the colors. When my 7D2 was working, I loved the AF.... amazing technology but I have to say, I love the colors produced by the 1D IV. And btw, it's tracking isn't a problem for me either: it works well but not in the same hmmmmm "spectacular fashion" as the 7D2.

So you wake up hearing noises. Do you shout out "Whooo's there?"

Couldn't resist. :-)
