Sometimes we push ISO to experiment eh? Well this morning I put the 1div in auto-iso. It was dark and the rain a monsoon-flooding throughout our area, poor
Cardinal is very wet.
My 'work-flow' (if you can call it a workflow) is to load the image from the card into DXO optics.....DXO does automatically apply a noise reduction, how
much and what kind I don't know yet ??? Then you can click on noise reduction and there are two types. For this image I didn't click on either and sent it
to LRcc where I have noise reduction slider to zero. Then into PScc where I reduced the size.
So here is my first ISO 10,000 from the 1Div-
Ooops, just notticed it's 12,800 :)

Makes me wonder what the new sensor in the 1DXii can do.
When I was shooting the Cardinals I didn't think of ISO....I knew it was in auto and
didn't realize that high until I was at the computer.
2500-3200 is the charm, 6400 if I had to, but not throwing away 12,800. In my area
that is so nice.
Well that's my take on it.

ISO 12,800 seems OK in daylight photos. Not so good in darker light.

I once took a photo of an old dog of mine on 12,800 but didn't realise it at the time. I wouldn't have known had I not looked at the exif data.

It looked more like a 400 or 800 ISO shot.

Susitna Are you specifically referring to the 1D4? I'm kinda hoping it is an attribute (higher ISO performance) of the 1D4----one reason we added it.

MedMan,

I love to read.... so I naturally buy the good birding books when they are available. One thing in common with every birding photography book I've purchased is the 1D IV. So many of the people who photograph wildlife, esp. birds, use one..... most often combined with a 500mm f/4 IS I or II.

Now, there is always a lag time between the gear available at the time the book was written and subsequently published, so I am guessing many of these photographers are now shooting a 1DX. In addition to that, there are a handful of photographers who use Nikon, as one would expect.

So, that's why I decided to keep my 1DIV over the replacement 7D2 Canon sent me. It wasn't an easy decision because I had a lot of fun with my original 7D2. I am still having fun, but with the 1D IV.

Greenjeans thanks!
Susitna that is good to hear.
Phoenix it really is interesting the comparison with the 7Dii. Most of you all know
I don't get all the theory....probably don't want too....but I have to agree there is something
about the 1Div. I just don't (again, don't know the theory) know the words to describe.
Matters not. I'm enjoying it.

Anyway we survived the flights, Poof forgot her passport :( Luckily she had a copy in the suitcase
from CR and the border agent was having a good day.
We got to the island less than 30 min's before sunset. The reward for me because last year I got nary
a one with blue sky!

Meh another Snowy, not what I'm after. This one was waaaaay off on the tundras sitting more like I'd expect them. I was worn out last night. We walked at least 5 miles and never could find a Long-eared :( Didn't take long for the camera gear to get heavy, terrain is flat but ice and ice and more ice. We did find a gem...the kind of shot makes all worth it, but I wasn't toting the 1Div for that one.

Well, MM, I'd do almost anything to see a snowy owl! Great image and interesting bokeh.
