I am about 80 kilometres east and slightly south of Detroit, Michigan, in southwestern Ontario ... specifically in a small city, Chatham, population of 40,000 or so, surrounded by agricultural lowland.
I had never seen a wild snowy until three winters ago, when they started showing up in an area of reclaimed lake bottom just north and west of Chatham. Since then, they are spotted all over the county during the winter. They disappear in the spring, presumably to fly north.
