I had the opportunity today to buy a used 1Div for about US$1500 with only 3000 actuations and in mint shape. I have never used one before since I moved from a Nikon D4 directly to 1Dx. Over time I have become so used to the button layout and the ergonomics of 1Dx that it felt a bit odd handling the 1Div. It was painful to say no to the seller.

1) The grip felt very different - it seemed 1Div grip has less depth than the 1Dx.
2) No "joystick"/knobby thingy in the portrait mode.
3) Button layout on the back was very different to what I have gotten used to.

Currently I use 7Dii as a back up to 1Dx and I don't have to fumble with controls too much when handling both bodies at the same. For instance, when zooming in on an image, the controls behave the same way on both of them but it was different on 1Div.

The seller was kind enough to hold it for me for another day if I changed my mind. Not sure what to do. Your thoughts would be appreciated.

To give an honest comparison I'd have to have a 1DX which I don't and I'm so new to the 1Div world I don't even have a
firmed opinion on it yet.
I do have a 7Dii and I like the feel of the 1Div better.
Since you have a 1DX I'm curious why you'd consider the 1Div if not other than the crop factor?
One thing I did notice about the 1Div on last weeks trip, the batter life is something I've never enjoyed before.
I'm more often playing with mirrorless and I think I got close to 2000 frames on one 1Div battery.

Realistically 1DX and 7D Mark II are a perfect setup. You'll just end up getting frustrated with the difference in layout of the 1D Mark IV especially the joystick for Portraits.

.

That's a really great image, Mark!
Did you use suet (or other bait) to bring the woodpecker to a location that you were set up on, or did you just happen to be in the right place at just the right time?

"Your" and "you're" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"They're", "their", and "there" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one.
"Fare" and "fair" are different words with completely different meanings - please use the correct one. The proper expression is "moot point", NOT "mute point".

It would have been a second photography camera when 7dii gets hogged by my videographers at weddings.

I have been holding off on a 5D series purchase in anticipation of mkiv which is why I don't have a "true" backup to 1dx in field.

Thanks fellas. It was taken in a bird hide. The Woodpeckers visit quite often, attracted by suet in the nearby stack feeders. TBH the shot doesn't look so good on here. Have a look at the version on Flickr from the link if you want to see it properly.

What a cool shot! Much to like here.

I do wonder why there is so much noise on the body though. Especially since it's a white bird and only iso 800. Or did you lighten up the bird in post maybe?
