Hey y'all! I pulled the trigger, yesterday, on a used 1D Mark IV from Adorama. I shoot our (relatively) local roller derby, where there is poor lighting. I debated between the 7D Mark II and the 1D Mark IV, but decided on the larger sensor vs. the newer tech. I do shoot some portrait type stuff, as well. As far as shooting the roller derby goes, I figure the bigger sensor will give less noise then my current 7D, and it will give me more room for framing when I'm shooting from the center of the track. I took into account the improved focus ability of the 7D2 over the 1D4, but I don't really have a problem with focus and subject tracking with the 7D. And, since the 1D4 is newer than the 7D, I doubt it would be worse at it.

And then there's the "look at me, I have a 1D' thing. LOL.

Can't wait for it to arrive. Adorama said it has only 16,537 actuations on the shutter. I'll double check that when it arrives. They might have missed a 0 in there somewhere. :P

16k on the shutter is like brand new! Mine had 97k on it when I bought it. No idea whats on it now.

I'm going to bet that it's a typo (though it was typed out twice) and that it is 160k. We'll see. Is there a way to get the production date from the serial number or something? If it was one of the last ones produced, maybe it was bought as a backup and not used often. Guess I should have thought of this earlier, but if it needs to be repaired at any point in time, does Canon still have parts for it? I mean, it's not like a century old or anything, but still.....

Adorama is pretty good about their counts. It may very well be 16k.

As far as the serial, I'm not sure. My serial starts with 03, and the date on the price tag from the camera store is 1/24/2010. I think that makes mine one of the first. That might give you a starting point.

I've had no luck with puppies or babies, but it will definitely get you noticed. Let the compensation begin!

I bet it is 16K. This is not unheard of. Also the assy is rated for 300K, so even if it turns out to be a typo, there would be plenty of "life" in it.

I got mine with 52 (not k) shots on it, the previous owner had the assy replaced, because he did not want to sell it with the 342,000 shots he had taken with it......

Oh, I agree about it still having life in it. If it is 16k, it'd be great. If it's 160k, it'll still be great. LOL.

Plus you can have Canon replace the shutter.
I've got both 7Dii and 1Div, the fancy focus system of the 7Dii rarely comes into
play for what I do. I just keep the center focus point on my target whether I'm using
the 1Div or the 7Dii.
One thing is true, you will like the colors better. I always thought that was a lengs thing
but not entirely.
The battery life of the 1Div is also amazing. I got over 2000 shots one day at a rookery
and could have shot again the next day for a while.
Now that '1D' look may be not such a good thing.....maybe a roller derby star might start
eyeing your pricy rig, eh?

It's great if they still have the parts. I looked into ordering a new eye cup from Canon, since the pictures of this one show it missing the rubber piece, but it said they were no longer available. Amazon has a plethora of them, though. But, it makes me wonder about other pieces.

I usually use center point, as well. Sometimes I'll use the others, but it's rare.

I've noticed that in this thread. The colors look a lot better than in the 7D thread, overall. I'm sure that's not always the case, due to variations in other's post workflow, but overall seems to be true.

My 7D was gripped for this reason. That extra battery kept me going all evening, plus being able to flip the camera into portrait orientation.

Nah... I have electrical tape. They'll never know.
