Well stated, CyberDS. I do like the live view on the 70D. It's very nice for macro and some real estate applications, etc. It's available on the 1D IV... sort of. It's a bit cumbersome to get to it so I haven't even tried it.

to be honest, I never use the video on my 70D. I do use the wifi function, though. I may miss that

First of all, the 17-55 is an EF-S lens... so it won't work on the 1D IV. I got the reasonably prices 24-105 f/4 for a walk around lens on my 1D IV. The 24-105 is available in the States through Canon Direct as a refurb, but there are quite a few of them around used, in pristine condition since it's often packaged in Canon kits. The prices here are usually from $500 to $600 US. I don't know the prices for used equipment in Ireland. Other alternatives are the various 24-70 lenses, Canon and Tamron. They are quite a bit more money here and have a more limited range. However, the trade off is the 24-70 (f/2.8 or f/4) lenses tend to be a bit better than the 24-105. I loved my 15-85 on the 70D but was a bit frustrated with the 17-55 because of the reduced range.

On the second issue, I have a 70D. My wife has been using it for the past several months. It's a fine camera but the 1D IV is a much better camera for my uses, i.e., mostly birding with a few other wildlife categories thrown in for good measure. It's faster (10 FPS, depending on the lens and circumstances). The colors are very true so it needs no color adjustment in post processing. At least, this has been my experience. It is larger and heavier but I don't seem to notice because it is "just right" for me.

1500 Euros seems a bit high but I'm basing that on US pricing so I might be off base. I got mine back in November and paid $1650 US for it. Mine came with 122k shutter actuations, as I've mentioned before, but the body was in near perfect condition. Just a few scratches on the LCD that you can't see when the camera is on.

In my view, with the current pricing, the 1D IV is an amazing camera. I don't think you'll be disappointed should you decide that's the way you want to go.

didn't realise 17-55 is EFs! thanks for that

I loved my EF-S 17-55 f/2.8 IS ... I kept a 1.6X crop body long after I had a 1.3X crop and a FF, just to use it. The combination of IS, f/2.8, and level of image quality was unique (and it may still be). The guy I sold the body (and lens to), still uses it as his everyday lens.

I'm amazed at all great sports shots. My nearest neighbor is a 20 minute drive, nearest highschool is 45 min's away....so any 'bigtime' sports is way way from here. So any great sports photography floors me. Maybe it's a good thing being a hillbilly, I appreciate all things that I don't have.

We've been eliminated by the Portland Trailblazers last week... Womp womp... :( Although the injuries to CP3 and Blake Griffin, in the post season, was a big blow to our team, we fought as hard as they could to stay in the game... Unfortunately it wasn't enough... Our season is done... As well as my yearly contract... Hopefully they liked my work enough to hire me again next season... With that, here's one of my favorite capture during the 2015-2016 season... Great job, fellas... I couldn't be more proud of our team!!!

:D

Excellent shot Mark.

Thanks fellas. The shot I wanted was actually 2 Robins perched next to each other here. They weren't fighting so I assume they were a mated pair. I quickly grabbed my 1DmkIV and aimed but 1 flew off as I was bringing the camera up. At least this one waited for me!
