I bought a new 1D4 in 2011. Last week I sold it to an online store that buys & sells used photo gear. I told them it was in excellent condition
due to the body condition and having the original box and all accessories. They offered $520, but when they received it they told me it
was only in very good condition due to it having 52k shutter clicks. They reduced the price to $470.

Is 52k shutter clicks really that much on the 1D4?

When you see my camera gear you'll think I'm a pro.
When you see my photos you'll know that I'm not.

I wouldn't have thought so, wasn't the shutter good for 200k? 52k for a 10 year old camera seems pretty modest use to me, it's only 100 frames per week.

That's what I'm thinking. I sold my 1D4 to help fund the R5.

When I was at Canon Canada at the CPS service counter years ago, the CPS rep told me they get 1D 1V’s in with 500+k on the shutter regularity.

Love my 1D 1V and his sister the 1Ds III. Both have hardly any click(<6,000 each) on the shot counter. Both work great and produce excellent results. Don’t care how old they are.

I use my 1D mark 4 very often instead of using my 1.4X converter on my 1Ds bodies .
The older of my two 1Dx has the shutter box assembly remplaced around 700K.It showns now 940K (700+240) and still runs as a charm.
I bought used my 1D mark IV for $500 USD on FM with 159K .

Minty 1D MKIV fresh from MPB, with 170k clicks on it. Literally had the choice of every body from Canon, but really this and my 6D are all I need for the pics I take.

I purchased my 1D MKlV from MBP about 6 months ago. Big step up from the Mark lll. I actually looked at a a lot of your rugby posts and was very impressed. That's what helped solidify my decision to upgrade.

Glad to be of help. I can't believe how good a condition mine is in, esp for the price. Yes it's a lot of clicks, but it should last me another four seasons or so, then I may go to a 1 1Dx.
I literally looked at everything available from 1D mk4 to an r3 and everything in between and just thought why do i need anything else?
The two people on POTN who I respect the most are Red Dog and Robamy and with the utmost respect, I'm not seeing any improvement in quality in what they are posting now with the new r series bodies, over the incredible images they shot on cameras with mirrors. I'll assume they are finding it easier with eye/face/wing recognition, but god are those guys talented.

I don't do much if any bird photos but I have been following that R3 thread and some of the photos are really great. That being said, I agree with you. The Mark lV is a great camera. I originally started with a 40D to take photos of my son who was in track and cross country. Later I upgraded to the 1D mark lll and really loved the features and size of the 1D body. I started watching different members like you that use the Mark lV and was really impressed with the images. I heard good things about MBP and was able to sell the Mark lll at a good price along with a couple of lens and purchased a low mileage Mark lV. Everything is better with this camera and now with the new de-noising applications out there, high iso shots become amazingly clean.

I went 400D, 40D, 1D mk3, 1D mk4, when that failed back to the mk3, now back on mk4. My negative transferral equity prevents me from advancing much further and the triple whammy of being 60, from Yorkshire and retired means I don't like spending money :p what noise reduction do you run?
