Hi there,

This motorcycle was bathing in nice, warm, oblique sunlight, with cold, blue snow in the shadows behind. This is pretty much as artistic as I can get, describing light temperature discrepancies :)

7D in "standard" mode, meaning +3 contrast
sigma 30mm f/5, 1/2000s, ISO 100.

Be gentle and do separate the artistic critique (much appreciated, as I'm a lost cause) and the tech stuff.

Thanks. Fire at will.

 Just wondering where in the middle of the Gulf of Biscaye (according to your location) you found this motorcycle.... sorry (edit) - mixed up east and west... sorry.

It is a bit under exposed I think. Could do with some more light and a sparkle or two. The "golden" light is ot really very noticeable.
I am not sure about the crop either. Either more space and more context or an even closer crop....
Wonder how many shots you took? Just this one, or a series from different positions, distances and angles? May be in those other shots you can find "the" one.

Good work :-). The "light temperature discrepancies" work a treat. The thing I find most disturbing is how close the mirror comes to the top edge. Other than that, I kind of wish there was just something else in the frame... a tree even... for the eye to settle on when it moves past the bike. The post, back wall, snow... my eye's a bit restless over all of them.

Cheers,
Tony

I've cropped it a tad, there was too much empty space in the upper left corner...

the background should have been bokeh'd (man, this word is ugly), should have used f/1.4... this town is impossible for photography, there's always some scheisse around to ruin yer shot.

It is a snapshot, no other angles / exposures... what I've seen with my eyes, in the viewfinder, on the screen, on my monitor and finally in lightroom are, trust me, five different photos lol. Only God knows what it looks like on your calibrated screens :)

I'm happy at least that the temperature difference shows, it's a start.

thanks for your opinions, keep 'em coming. they're useful.

PS: town's Geneva, more rain & mist than London. I am *very* familiar with all possible shades of gray...
