So I bought a camera off craigslist (xti) and I have a 18-55 IS lens and the 55-250 IS lens so I was wondering where you guys are insuring your cameras? My home owners insurance will make me pay my 1000 deductible so whats my other options?
Thanks,

Ryan

I insure it through my car insurance company. I just had it all "endorsed" today, actually. about $50 a year for my $3400 worth of stuff and I pay a $50 deductible. I can now take all my stuff on my friends rinky-dink boat and get some DUCK PICTURES (in a few months) without worrying about the boat flipping over.

Also, it's cheaper than a sensor cleaning, lol!

Valuable Personal Property policy is the way to go. Plan on about $9-$10 a year per $1,000 worth of coverage. Mine protects me against everything...to include dropping a lens. <knocks on wood>

Glad I stumbled on this thread-- I already have homeowners and valuable personal property through USAA, and added my camera goodies for less than $10 per $1000 annually. Zero deductible, 100% replacement cost.

I have Nationwide and they wrote me an add-on policy. Odd as it may sound, I think it was an Inland Marine policy. I have several valuables as well as my camera equipment and it's about the same as the others have posted, about $10 per $1000. I don't remember there being a deductible. If there is, its like $50 or something. The trick is to get it insured separately from your home owners or auto insurance.

Ask for the "valuable personal property" policy--it's an addition to my homeowners, and I actually added my camera to the same policy as my wife's wedding/engagement rings. Good luck!
