I traveled to a resort (Semiahmoo) near the Canadian border yesterday to take advantage of a break in our dreary weather. I spent most of the day on a boardwalk facing the bay and photographing the wide variety of waterfowl and other water loving birds. I basicalyy stayed in one spot and let the birds come to me. There were 3 or 4 pairs of red-breasted mergansers foraging and courting right in front of me. What an interesting and attractive bird.

This may be an immature male - note the black around the eye (or a bar fight last night?). It actually succeeded in swallowing this fish.

This "meal" looked like an eel and he swallowed it several times but it kept coming back up.

These are great Bob....he should have swallowed that eel head first and maybe it wouldn't have kept jumping out.

A gorgeous series, Bob. I think any eel I swallowed would keep coming back up, too.

Nice shots. In the last picture is it on its way back out or in?
