Help! LR JPG exports look nothing like photo when viewing in LR!

Hi folks,

For some reason I have yet to uncover, my JPG exports from LR look nothing like the image while I have the original file open in LR. This is the first time this has been happening. I haven't noticed anything like this with previous exports. The only difference is that these photos were shot using RAW + JPEG on my 5D rather than RAW. Could that be the issue? I'm going to calibrate my monitor shortly. Just giving it time to warm up before I do, but I figured some of you might know what's going on here. I have attached a link to the picture which I uploaded to tinyurl. The original is in LR while the export is open in windows photo gallery.

100% chance (without bothering to look at the link) that you don't understand color management and ended up with a poor setup. Check out the links on Rene's signature, and you should be able to solve your issues fairly quickly.

I don't hate macs or OSX, I hate people and statements that portray them as better than anything else. Macs are A solution, not THE solution. Get a good desktop i7 with Windows 7 and come tell me that sucks for photo or video editing.

Checked the image now.... 100% certain it is a color management issue. Highlights are the same exposure, shadows are darker. It's actually quite common, and happened to me with firefox 3.5 when the color management fiasco was in full swing.

So what do I need to understand about color management? LR edits in ProPhoto RGB and I have LR export into sRGB for displaying on the web. Where did I go wrong with my color management?

i've been reading his sticky in the main PP forum. first thing on the list is to calibrate the monitor. so i'm gonna do that shortly. then go from there.

I assumed you meant my workflow, but it seems that certain programs suck at color management without a decent monitor profile.
