We're lucky to have 2 species of Haliaeetus eagles in Hokkaido in winter. The above is a an adult Stellers Sea Eagle and the one below is an adult White Tailed Eagle.

These shots were taken on the Yurappu River near Yakumo in south Hokkaido. A good salmon run this autumn has left lots and lots of sashimi for the eagles to eat.......

A brief period of blue sky saw me got a few nice shots before the blizzard returned...........

And finally one not on the wing. A great day for BIF shots but not so good for terrestrial ones.......

All shots taken with a 7D and 100-400L.

Some nicer perched ones or better still sitting in the river eating salmon ones next week would be perfect........

Good shots. It's great to see birds from another area, so different from what we normally see. Thank you.

All super good -- These make mine (eagle shots) look paltry.

Hi Mark, all were handheld except for the last one which was on a tripod (it was a failed attempt at a moody winter video, the photo was an accident as i pressed the shutter instead of the video start button on the 7D).

Beautiful and interesting shots... the White Tailed Eagle resembles our Bald Eagle... you did a marvelous job on these fliers... and I really enjoyed the perched shot in the snow.
