Having read few reviews and posts here
My daughter has decided on Canon Powershot SX200 IS camera which she will buy later today
I have suggested to buy the accessories online - Memory SD card - to get a couple of 8GB cards - but not to worry about paying the extra for things like scandisk II as the speed is only relevant for copying data onto the PC
AT LEAST
that used to be the case - with CF cards and DSLR when I played with them a little while ago when I looked here -

Should go back on and have another read

But as this is just a small compact and will be used for "snap Shots" in the main
any suggestions

Also any advice for good online store UK based
I have looked at 7dayshop and digitalera - bought from both in the past

Speed is not usually that important for compacts since they mainly do not shoot many FPS (Frames Per Second) and even the fast FPS compacts don't shoot fast enough to warrant the need. If it takes a little longer to read them back on the computer then that's up to you if you think read speed is important. But for writing to in a compact any SD card should be fine.

It's usually on DSLR's in continuous shooting mode that it becomes important. Especially when shooting RAW.

Brilliant Thanks for the quick response Dick Emery

Thats how I remember it being a few years back when I was really into photography
So we can save £12+ quid on each card - brilliant

If you shoot video with your compact....card speed is of some importance. If you shoot RAW with your compact...card speed is of some importance. If you value your data....card brand is of some importance. Cheap, crappy cards might not cost much....but they can cost you a lot if they fail. Better to buy middle of the road cards from a legit manufacturer than anything from Brand X.

Thanks - Yea I have already suggested she gets scandisk / Kingston
But told her not to bother with scandisk II
to get this one

Rather than the ultra II

Or Kingston

Do you think the Ultra II will make any difference on video on that camera ???

I dont expert her to use RAW (Not sure if available on that camera, will need to check )

Card speed becomes important if you are shooting video...if you have a cheap slow card...it can't write very fast....the buffer fills and the camera stops recording. I wouldn't use anything less than an Ultra II if I was shooting video.
