They don't record your conversations.

Well, yeah.. it's a feature to record your call if you want, you press #4 and it records it. But it doesn't record everything without your knowledge or consent. If you don't like that feature, don't use it.

I think your fears are a bit unfounded, sorry.

well I was not trying to imply that it records everything but lets just say that you are about to make a purchase of a new canon camera from your favorite camera shop via phone. You don't want to miss any of the important tracking information and details of your purchase so you decide to record this conversation. Meanwhile through the call you give out your full name, address, and valued credit card information. My question was posed, what stop some person from hacking in and listening to your recorded calls?

I am not an overly paranoid person and do believe there is inherent risks in anything. This may be far fetched, but I do believe plausible. I think it is okay to be a little skeptical of new things... I also never said it would stop me from trying it out.

oh no! the government just busted in... I guess I was wro

Yeah, I guess it's possible, in your scenario... but, boy, what a dull task that would be, listening to various others conversations, looking for one that contained information that you could exploit!

I have 2 google numbers and use them on a daily basic. I record calls all the time and use almost every other feature available.

I have the google app on my blackberry and it does very well.

I think the features are getting more integrated now, I think I'll start to use Voice.

ooo, I didn't know I could record my calls. thats pretty cool.
I really don't have a problem with it.
In your scenario I would be more concerned about the waiters/shop keepers and all those other individuals that see my card number on a daily basis.
It is terribly easy to have an unscrupulous individual obtain your CC#.
And you may notice that many call centers you talk with have a warning that you call may be recorded.
IMO, it really does not make sense to be concerned.
Oh, and to answer the OP's q.
I use one google voice number for my business and I have one for personal stuff.
I have also obtained a 800 number for free from Att's iphone ap but have not done anything with it.

I am not a fan of google doing anything with my information. I use a Skype account with a subscription as my business number.

you get 60 minutes free. Of course I have had 2 calls this week from unknown callers one of which left me a 6 minute blank message using up my time.

I use Google Voice, and I love that it's integrated into my Droid phone. I have multiple google voice numbers, one personal and one for my photo business. I even got to pick a number that ended in PHOTO. Transcribing the voicemails to text and e-mailing to my inbox is nice.

Nothing stops them. But they have to do just that -- hack in. Every system is hackable. The encryption protecting all GSM calls (3 billion mobile phones worldwide, all of T-mobile and AT&T's mobile stuff) has been cracked. So none of your mobile phone calls are even close to secure.

You have legitimate reasons for paranoia. But the current best solution is to a) not talk on any phone or b) watch your credit card statements carefully. I try to keep any info about me that I don't want public off the internet and out of voicemails.
