1) Watch your backgrounds
2) Look at dad's forehead. Using a WA on this made the legs so long their bodies look distorted.
3) Looks like he is choking the dog.

Looks like Dads head and red shirt dudes head is overexposed..dog needs to look at the camera too...maybe with the open mouth "smile" dogs do, it looks terrified. Moms head is too low in the 2nd, camera looks to have been crooked...mantle is not straight. The glare on the fireplace door is distracting in #1.

Yeah #1 you can see the umbrella reflection in the fire place.

Agree with above posters. The wide angle is causing some distortion. In the first the reflection of the umbrella is distracting. In the second the WA distortion is most noticeable, the horizon is a bit wonky and the hairy socks... I'd try a tighter crop on #3 and also think it looks like he's choking the dog.

I agree with above posters. It looks to me like in each one of the three pictures there is at least one person/dog which is not comfortable, relaxed, or enjoying the moment:

#1 - to me the little boy looks uncomfortable...Dog looks great!!!
#2 - the husband doesn't look like he wants to be taking pictures
#3 - like everyone else said, the dog is looking for a quick escape and the boy is holding him down.

Indeed you can see reflections in the background.

I personally would crop out some of the legs, or even all the way up to the faces/torso.

That dog is totally distracted or scared.

Also is mom's head floating? Kind weird angle there, might wanna show more of her body.

Seems like they are all uncomfortable with the session.

This should have been a gift for them rather than a job.

For #2 you don't always need to get people entirely within the frame. Read up on portraiture even doing a lot of browsing and reading on here. Depending on how the image will be used, i.e. digital only vs. print/framing, a portrait may not be composed properly until your subject is near or touching the edges of the frame.

Beginner's thoughts are to never cut off part of a person, but often times portraits are done from the belly up where elbows and some hair can often be cut off.

#2 If you just crop waist up and brighten up mom and darken dad + boy in red a little it's pretty good.
