When shooting a moving object, whether sports or just a child running around, which mode is giving you the best results? It would be interesting to see how the % pans out.

I can't vote, since there is no "It depends" option.
It depends upon both the subject, the background and surrounding objects. It also depends upon how you combine the AF point selection mode with various Custom functions in block III.

Probably depends a lot on the situation. I warmed up to expansion almost immediately since it mimics the setup of my 5D2 where I use center AF point and expansion for tracking in AI Servo. Haven't given the other modes enough of a chance yet, but from what little I've used all 19 points, it seems like the camera has no trouble handing the AF duties on to the next point as I track birds in flight.

Def agree that it depends on the situation and the various customizations you can do. However, what mode are you using most for what you shoot?

I sit with you on this Kenji. I jump between AF point expansion and Zone.

Intresting tom in terms of using 19 point. Ive never thought about it like that.

Well, the camera lets you choose the starting AF point, and once focused, it will follow the subject around the entire grid of AF points. I tend to start in the middle, but that doesn't have to be the case.

I've been sticking to AF Point Expansion more often than not. I'm sure the 19 point and Zone modes are great but I've not had the time to try them out

However, what mode are you using most for what you shoot?

For moving targets, everything except spot AF. Spot is usually too critical when trying to track moving targets.
Here are some images (external link) which were taken with zone AF, in an attempt to see if the runner (who deliberately was running behind bushes, dressed in a camouflage suit) could be tracked by the automatic AF point handover among the nine points in the center zone.

For RC-controlled model aircraft, all 19 points work well, as long as there is no background (trees) to fool the camera.

For a runner alone or among other people, one point or one point with expansion.
