So I received my WFT-E2 and am trying to set it up.

I got so far that it is now able to connect to my wireless access point. The pairing software sees it but looses it quickly.

I can ping the IP address of the WFT.

I can also connect to the camera with the browser when the WFT is set to WFTserver.

Sp far so good.

It can also connect to the FTP server however it fails creating a folder. This is the ftp log

Any ideas as to why it fails ?

Ok fixed that. Changed the ftp server to simple simple directories and the camera could create a folder.

Now next issue is to get connection with EOSUtility. When I select that on the camera I see it pop up in the pairing software. WHen I select the camera and click on connect the connection is lost and it disapears from the list in the pairing software.

On the camera I get error 11: Connection target not found.

The manual states that this has to do with the wireless encryption key but that can't be rigth since it is connected to the wireless network ??

Hehe oh well. I got it to work now. After trying the connect wizard for the like 100th time it finally connected so I can now connect wirelessly with eos utility and I also tried shooting with auto transfer enabled in ftp mode and it worked perfect.

Its definately not easy to configure it correctly. Next step is to try to setup an ad hoc network on my laptop and connect through that one.

Just wondering why it did not connect earlier on and why it connects now? Did you change any settings and if so, what did you change?

I think somehow it was the problem with the ftpserver that caused it and when I finally got that rigth the connection wizard could complete. It appears that the camera every time it connects to the ftp server first will attempt to create a folder to ensure it can send files properly.

Did you update to the latest firmware that came out in December? It was WFT updates for the MKIII.

Actually, that update was to make the WFT-E2 work with the 1D Mark IV. The update prior to that for the 1D Mark III was v1.0.1 from early 2008 so as long as his WFT-E2 is at v1.0.1, he'll be fine. :)

Glad you finally got it working for you in both FTP and PTP modes.

Did you get a chance to try out your GPS device with the WFT?

BTW, Tommy, what OS are you running? I'm able to get the FTP connection working on my Mac with Leopard, Snow Leopard, Windows XP and Windows 7. But for the life of me, I just can't get it to work with Windows Vista Ultimate. The issue is with the FTP server itself. I'm just wondering if anybody running Vista has been able to connect their WFT to the FPT server.

From the Canon website:

This firmware update (Version 1.3.0) are to make these wireless file transmitters compatible with the EOS-1D Mark III

I don't use one so I didn't update my MKIII.

Hmmm, we must be talking about two different firmware updates, then. The latest firmware I'm aware of for the WFT-E2/E2A is v2.0.0 which came out in December. Previous to that, it was v1.0.1.

From the Canon website (bold face is my doing):

Firmware changes
Firmware Version 2.0.0 supports the use of the WFT-E2 / E2A wireless file transmitter with the EOS-1D Mark IV digital SLR camera. If you are using the WFT-E2 / E2A with the EOS-1D Mark III or EOS-1Ds Mark III, you do not need to update the firmware.

Please note that if the firmware version of the WFT-E2/ E2A is Version 1.0.1 or earlier, the WFT-E2 / E2A cannot be used with the EOS-1D Mark IV and a firmware update message will appear on the camera's LCD monitor.

Firmware Version 2.0.0 is for WFT-E2 / E2A units with firmware up to Version 1.0.1. If the WFT-E2 / E2A's firmware is already Version 2.0.0, it is not necessary to update the firmware.

Oh, wait a minute, are you talking about the firmware update for the 1DmkIII? If so, that's to allow the 1DmkIII to work with the newer WFT-E2 II.

What has changed in version 1.3.0 of the firmware?

The following improvements have been incorporated.

Supports the WFT-E2 II wireless file transmitter that was released in December 2009.

I think it is mainly for the new version Leo, but the the description doesn't specify. If he was having issues it might not be a bad idea to upgrade the firmware.

We're actually all over the place. Thing is, we sometimes have our cloaking shields turned on so that may be the reason you haven't been noticing us. ;)
